This particular project was with an amazing group of women who have overcome major challenges in their pasts. The goal of this project was to do more than simply tell their stories in photographs: they wanted to direct everything about the photo sessions, the styling, the locations. These are women who have had that right taken from them in the past, but no longer. These photos echo that – they are pieces of their stories told in their voices.
Stacey Schwarz at We Are All Human was the brain and heart behind the project. Collaborating with her was amazing. We Are All Human focuses on the loss of identity that is at the heart of every social issue. They believe it’s the root of dehumanization, and is where abuse and addiction begin. Their mission is to create a platform for women to be seen for WHO THEY ARE, and to give back the identity + dignity that was once stolen. To read more about this project and read these women’s stories, check back at the We Are All Human site where they will be posted soon!
This shoot was also done in partnership with the incredible Megan Sophie Holman: “As someone who uses design and intentional details to tell stories, I partnered with Salt to Clay and WAAH on this project so that five women could not only share the stories of their past, but could portray themselves through photography as they are right now. Working alongside these women to really make sure their voices, their personalities, and all the small things they hold dear were represented was a privilege, and an experience I won’t soon forget.”
Below is a sneak peak of the wonderful women in all their variety: strong, reserved, joyful, triumphant, grown and growing.
